16 days Lower Dolpo Trek Itinerary details

Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj 150m.

From Kathmandu to Nepaljung, you fly 1 hours around. Nepalgunj is situated near the Border of India which is western Part of Nepal. While flying you see the Himalayan Mountains. When you arrive at Nepalgung, you have free time and visit the Nepalgunj City.

Day 02: Fly from Nepalgunj 150m. to Juphal flight and drive to Dunai 2140m.

From Nepalgunj fly to Juphal 45 minutes around then drive to Dunai 2 hours approx by Jeep. Road Condition is rough and narrow. You will drive along the Thuli Bheri River. You will explore Buddhist and Hindu religions besides cultivated fields and Traditional Water mill etc.

Day 03: Dunai 2140m.-Chhepka 2838m.

You walk today from Dunai to Chhepka 5/6 hours (17km) around along the Suligad River which is moderate gradual ascent. On this day, enjoy the view of  River valleys, Pine, Walnut trees, Bamboo and Rhododendron forest. Besides, cross the suspension bridges.  Also on this day required Shey Phoksundo National Park Permit for Tourists. You will walk mostly narrow gorges and You will have chance to see Langurs and blue sheep.

On this day, you will see the view of Kaike Peak. You will see Local Prayer flags, Mani Walls and terraced Barley fields. You will meet today friendly kaike ethnic group and you will have chance to see Himalayan Marmots. Besides, you will cross small bridges before to arrive Samdua Village. Day 05: Samdua Village 2960m-Phoksundo Lake 3630m.

You walk today from Samdua Village to Phoksundo Lake 5/6 hours which is 10km around. You walk moderate ascent through the traditional Villages, pine forest, birch forests trails and Waterfalls. Pass the magnificent Suligad Waterfall, which is highest Waterfalls of Nepal. Enter the Shey Phoksundo National Park with blue color of breathtaking Phoksundo lake’s view. If you are interested, visit traditional Bon Village (Ringmo) and Bonpo Monastery near the Lake.

Enjoy the view of Kagmara Peak and Stunning Turquoise Phoksundo Lake. Or you can stay during the day at your Tent according to your interest. Day 07: Phoksundo Lake 3630m. –Temche 3995m.

Trail includes forest Paths, narrow Cliffside, rocky section ascend towards higher alpine terrain and gradually gains altitude. Also you will have chance to see scenic view of Kanjiroba Peak. You will see good views of the valley while walking on the way. Temche has been surrounded by Pastureland and with the view of cliffs.

Day 08: Temche 3995m.-Baga La  5169m-Danigar 4513m

You walk today from Temche to Danigar by crossing the Bagala 5169m 6/7 hours around. You walk from Temche to Bagala ¾ hours and from Bagala to Danigar  2/3 hours around with panoramic view of Peaks ( Like Kanirowa Himal). Walk up to Bagala steep ascent 1174m+ and from Bagala steep descend to Danigar 656m. You walk today in the beginning steep ascend rocky snowy terrain therefore increase gradual altitude demands a slow walking up to Bagala then steep descent carefully toward Danigar with Trekking Poles.

Day 09: Danigar 4513m-Numa La 5309m- Numa La Phedi 4440m

You walk today from Danigar to Numa La phedi by crossing the Numa La 5309m 6/8 hours (12km) around. Today in the beginning ascent up to Numa La 5309m  gradually  rocky slopes and  alpine meadow then after Numa La pass steep descend to Numa La Phedi.

-From the Pass, you will enjoy the view of Mt Dhaualagiri  range and Dolpo region.

-when you arrive at Numa La Phedi, you get there simple lodges/Tea houses for an overnight.

Note: On this day on the way, you get not lodges that’s why carry some snacks and an enough drinking Water from Danigar. Besides, before of altitude sickness.

The place was Salt trading route between Nepal and Tibet in ancient period. Here you visit an ancient Old Sandul Monastery.

The Paths gets steeper climb toward Phosundo Bhanjyang and you will see an excellent view of dramatic cliffs and snow capped Peaks. Enjoy the view of Upper Dolpo Valley Tibetan Plateau, Kanjirowa Himal, crystal mountain (Holy Mountain of Dolpo) and Mt. Dhaulagiri range. Besides, you will see Buddhist monuments, Charten, nomadic huts and Yaks pastureland before reaching to Shey Gompa. When you arrive at Shey Gompa overnight at Tent.

Day 11: Shey Gompa 4500m.-Saldung La 5200m-4800m.-Namduna Gaon 4800m.

You walk today from Shey Gompa to Namduna Gaon via saldung La 5200m. In the beginning steep and rock ascent to the Saldung Pass then gradually descent to Namduna Gaon. While walking on the way, you will enjoy the view of Dolpo valleys Crystal mountain and Yak Pastures. Weather can be change on the pass therefore carry warm & windproof gears. When you arrive at Namduna Gaon then overnight there. You get at this place Radish, Buckwheat, Barley, Mustard and Potatoes cultivation.

When you arrive at Yangze Gompa (Buddhist Monastery) get spectacular view of surrounding Himalayan Peaks and overnight there.

Follow the trail Pasture and barren ridges from Yangze Gompa to Namduna Gaon and get an awesome view of arid Dolpo Landscape. Then continue downhill along the river valley to Sibu. On the way you will see remote rugged Landscape, Yaks and sheep grazing high altitude pastures. When you arrive at Sibu overnight there.
